Welcome to the team John!

We are pleased to announce the appointment of John Woodhouse as Principal Consultant at Consilium Recruit.

We spent a bit of time getting to know John better with a Q&A, here is what he had to say…

What is your background?

This is my seventeenth year in recruitment, starting as a Resource Consultant in the IT industry with Spring back in 2004. I then moved into a Technical Engineering role within the automotive industry in 2010 with P-Tec Technical Recruitment and have stayed in this sector ever since. I worked for a “start-up” in 2012 called Edison Technical Recruitment as an Account Manager and helped build a successful business alongside some great people, I now find myself at the start of a new and exciting challenge and am looking forward to a successful future.

What sectors will you be recruiting in?

Mainly Automotive, however there’s a lot more to go at out there such as the new technology spaces within Renewable Energy, Clean Energy, Batteries and Hydrogen Technology.

What will be the challenges for automotive industry in 2021?

1 - Remote working is probably the most obvious one, it’s not for everyone and can be almost impossible for families with young children who need to combine home schooling with meeting work expectations.

2 - With a lot of people now working from home for at least some part or potentially the whole of the week, the need for a vehicle/new vehicle could be limited and play a part in Automotive sales figures which would mean a required focus for online sales and creating easy to use fully digital purchasing options.

What are the main changes you expect to see in recruitment in 2021?

The use of technology now that a lot of us are working from home and with it a need for more digital skills across all sectors. Online interviews could become the norm with the likes of Microsoft Teams, Zoom and other similar options available and so easy to use.

Any single piece of advice for Jobseekers?

Try to stand out, with so much competition for jobs it’s important build rapport with your consultant. If you find a good recruitment company then be loyal to them, give them every chance of finding you your next move and you’ll find that how you are with them will be reciprocated.

What made you choose to join Consilium?

Sounds cheesy but I had a good feeling about them, after an initial chat on the phone an interview followed and it became more apparent that I could see myself working with Consilium. In addition to seeing a lot of very good consultants being let go in the market due mainly to Covid it was refreshing to find a company that wanted to look forward rather than look the other way from it.
